Itll cost you tons of bandwidth to do so, and your server probably isnt optimized for video streaming. The obvious option, then, is to embed these videos on your WordPress site instead. This begs the question: In this article, Ill highlight the pros and cons of Vimeo vs YouTube for WordPress videos your videos, and talk about who should use which platform.Lets get started!Vimeo vs YouTube: PricingFor the sake of practicality, lets tackle pricing right off the bat.YouTube is completely free to use, but whilst Vimeo has a free basic plan, youll have to pay to unlock more storage and premium features:Vimeos paid plans range from $6 to $50 per month, which means youll be paying $72 (youre billed annually) at the very minimum.Bottom line: YouTube is more cost- effective.Vimeo vs YouTube: Upload LimitsNext, lets talk about upload limits. First up: YouTube!Once youve verified your account, you can upload videos on YouTube with up to 12 hours of playback or 128GB file size. The limit on an unverified account is just 15 minutes:Cool beans 12 hours is more than sufficient to meet most content creators needs. When it comes to Vimeo, the upload limits depend on the plan youre on.If youre on the basic (free) plan, youll only get 500MB per week, with up to 25 GB per year. This is decent enough for folks who just want to experiment with incorporating videos in your contentbut if youre serious about making video part of your long-term content strategy, or if youre building your entire WordPress site around your videos, youll definitely need to upgrade to a paid plan.Bottom line: YouTube is less restrictive in terms of upload limits.Vimeo vs YouTube: Platform ReachWhen it comes to platform reach, the Vimeo vs YouTube debate is almost non-existent.Why do I say so?(Charts by Visualizer Lite.)YouTube has 1.5 billion active users each month (data from TechCrunch.com).On top of that, the platform also lays claim to being the worlds second most widely used search engine. To be fair to Vimeo, they have over 170 million viewers worldwide which isnt too shabby at all. But unfortunately, this still doesnt hold a candle to YouTubes 1.5 billion users.Bottom line: YouTube has greater reach.Vimeo vs YouTube: Privacy SettingsHeres how Vimeo vs YouTube compare when it comes to privacy! With YouTube, you can choose from three different privacy settings for the videos which you upload.First up, public videos can be searched and accessed by anyone.Secondly, unlisted videos can be viewed by people who have the URL. These videos do not appear in YouTubes search or related videos functions.Lastly, there are private videos, which can only be viewed by you and the users whom you specify. If you want to, you can also disable comments on your videos. So fa r so good, right? The problem comes in when you want to disallow embedding of videos. YouTube isnt too flexible when it comes to this, and if you want to disallow embedding of videos, this means you wont be able to embed videos on any website, including your own.Needless to say, this is a pretty huge deal-breaker if youre running any sort of membership site.Luckily for you Vimeos here to save the day.Like YouTube, Vimeo allows you to make your videos public, private or unlisted. On top of that, paid plan users also have the option of restricting video embeds to their websites only.Thats not all: Vimeo also have a cool password-protect feature that will prompt users to enter a password for whichever video you choose.Bottom line: Vimeo is better for uploading private videos.Vimeo vs YouTube: Video EditingAfter spending all that time shooting your videos, youll want to make sure that your editing is on point, so that people will love (and share!) your final product. Is Vimeo or YouTube b etter for video editing? Lets break it downFirstly, YouTube offers a pretty good range of video editing features.Using their video editor, you can create videos from your previously uploaded video clips and photos. Its fairly simple to add links, captions, and subtitles to your videos.YouTube also offers you a nice range of original features that you wont find elsewhere. Like this thing called end screens, cards, and annotations.Vimeo, on the other hand, doesnt quite have as many video editing features as YouTube. Most prominently it doesnt have an annotation feature this means you wont be able to add clickable links to your videos. But heres an advantage that Vimeo has over YouTube: on Vimeo, you can replace your video with an updated version without having to change your videos URL or stats. (For reference, you cant do this on YouTube youre only able to upload a new video using a new URL.)This feature really comes in handy for newbie video creators, who might be more prone to mak ing mistakes (which theyll have to rectify subsequently). Its not fun watching your stats reset to zero when you replace your video and with Vimeo, you can simply update your video and retain all the views and comments youve already accumulated!Bottom line: YouTube has more video editing features, but the ability to update a video on Vimeo is great for newer video creators.Vimeo vs YouTube: Monetizing Your ContentBecause exposure doesnt pay the bills. If youre looking to monetize your video content, both Vimeo and YouTube will allow you to do so.Heres how you do so on YouTube:Sign up for Google Adsense, and join YouTubes partner program to start showing ads on your videos.Theres one caveat, though: youll need to rack up at least 10,000 views on your channel before youre eligible to join.Apart from earning through video ads, you can also create sponsored videos in which you plug products and services from your clients. How about monetizing your videos on Vimeo?Whilst Vimeo doesnt hav e an advertising program for its creators, they do have a platform called Vimeo on Demand. On this platform, youll be able to sell videos directly to your users. Do note, though, that youll need at least a Vimeo Pro accountà to be eligible to join. Also: similar to YouTube, you can also do sponsored videos on Vimeo.Bottom line: YouTube has more options for monetizing videos. A final word on using Vimeo vs YouTubeVimeo vs YouTube: which is better for WordPress videos? At the end of the day, it really depends. If youre using videos as a way to supplement the existing content on your site, go for YouTube. It should be able to meet all your needs, and it can help you reach out to a much wider audience. But if youre building a membership website or selling courses (with your course materials being predominantly videos), then Vimeo is the way to go.By looking at your business model and assessing your needs, youll be able to choose the right video platform for your WordPress website.Whats you r choice? .@Vimeo vs @YouTube for #WordPress videos: which should you use?

Conjugation of Regular Spanish Verbs in the Subjunctive Mood Except for those rare few of us who can learn verb conjugations without effort, mastering them at some point will require rote memorization. While the verb forms can be confusing at first, with use they become natural as conjugations in the native tongue. The lists below show the forms of the subjunctive for regular verbs; see individual listings for irregular verbs. Translations are given for clarity in distinguishing the tenses; in real life, other translations can be used. Present subjunctive, regular -ar verbs: Remove the -o from the singular first-person indicative form and add the appropriate ending: -e, -es, -e, -emos, -à ©is, en. que yo hable (that I speak) que tà º hables (that you speak) que à ©l/ella/usted hable (that he/she/you speak) que nosotros/nosotras hablemos (that we speak) que vosotros/vosotras hablà ©is (that you speak) que ellos/ellas/ustedes hablen (that they/you speak) Present subjunctive, regular -er and -ir verbs: Remove the -o from the singular first-person indicative form and add the appropriate ending: -a, -as, -a, -amos, -is, an. que yo coma (that I eat) que tà º comas (that you eat) que à ©l/ella/usted coma (that he/she/you eat) que nosotros/nosotras comamos (that we eat) que vosotros/vosotras comis (that you eat) que ellos/ellas/ustedes coman (that they/you eat) Imperfect subjunctive of regular verbs: Remove the -on from the third-person indicative plural preterite form and add the appropriate ending: -a, -as, -a, -amos, -ais, an. Put the stress on the last syllable of the stem in the nosotros form. que yo hablara (that I spoke) que tà º hablaras (that you spoke) que à ©l/ella/usted hablara (that he/she/you spoke) que nosotros/nosotras hablramos (that we spoke) que vosotros/vosotras hablarais (that you spoke) que ellos/ellas/ustedes hablaran (that they/you spoke) que yo comiera (that I ate) que tà º comieras (that you ate) que à ©l/ella/usted comiera (that he/she/you ate) que nosotros/nosotras comià ©ramos (that we ate) que vosotros/vosotras comierais (that you ate) que ellos/ellas/ustedes comieran (that they/you ate) There is also a less common form of this tense that is used primarily in writing, especially literature. It is seldom heard in speech in most regions. It is conjugated as above, except the -ra- becomes -se-. It normally is not necessary to memorize this form, but you should be able to recognize it when you see it. que yo hablase (that I spoke) que tà º hablases (that you spoke) que à ©l/ella/usted hablase (that he/she/you spoke) que nosotros/nosotras hablsemos (that we spoke) que vosotros/vosotras hablaseis (that you spoke) que ellos/ellas/ustedes hablasen (that they/you spoke) que yo comiese (that I ate) que tà º comieses (that you ate) que à ©l/ella/usted comiese (that he/she/you ate) que nosotros/nosotras comià ©semos (that we ate) que vosotros/vosotras comieseis (that you ate) que ellos/ellas/ustedes comiesen (that they/you ate) Present perfect subjunctive: Use the present subjunctive form of haber (which is irregular) and follow it with the past participle. que yo haya salido (that I have left) que tà º hayas salido (that you have left) que à ©l/ella/you haya salido (that he/she/you have left) que nosotros hayamos salido (that we have left) que vosotros/vosotras hayis salido (that you have left) que ellos/ellas/ustedes hayan salido (that they/you have left) Past perfect subjunctive (pluperfect): Use the past subjunctive form of haber and follow it with the past participle. Although both the -ra and -se- forms of haber are possible, the former is more common and is shown below. que yo hubiera salido (that I had left) que tà º hubieras salido (that you had left) que à ©l/ella/usted hubiera salido (that he/she/you had left) que nosotros hubià ©ramos salido (that we had left) que vosotros/vosotras hubieris salido (that you had left) que ellos/ellas/ustedes hubieran salido (that they/you had left)

Bags Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Bags - Essay Example I decided to sharpen my skills with this game. Practice marketing is a modern, 3D multiplayer marketing strategy game (Practice Marketing). Practice marketing was designed to be a digital learning product for the backpack industry. This game enabled me to apply the theoretical part that I have learnt in class into a simulated world which is very similar to reality. The best part of the simulation game is that it allowed me to practice my marketing skills in a ââ¬Ëreal worldââ¬â¢ but in a much funnier way which enhance learning apart from honing my marketing skills by cutting out boredom, classroom monotony and increasing creativity. Practice marketing uses the 4Ps of marketing that is product, price, placement and promotion (Practice Marketing). In the multiplayer game each student has to launch a new backpack product of their own original design to the market in the ââ¬Ëreal worldââ¬â¢. First, I had to choose my target market. I chose the college students as my target market because in my years of college, I have seen how college students, especially girls spend almost all their money on fashion and boys always carry backpacks as they are handy for school and their manly stuff. College students were the best choice for my target market because first, the student body in my school alone is huge. Therefore, I designed a backpack that is both fashionable yet handy for other purposes. I had to design a backpack that was not feminine yet not masculine, so that both genders could purchase my backpack. Secondly, I chose to sell to college student because even though the price was about average- that is college friendly prices- the volume of sales would be huge thus significant profit levels. My strategy was unique in that most backpacks are meant for the male gender, but here I had designed a gender equal backpack and this is where I beat my competitors. Furthermore, my backpack design is not only meant for school as they can be used on other occasions too. This

When the employees of a company bear a direct influence upon the achievement of that company transformational leadership is the greatest resource. A transformational manager is a leader who has the capacity to inspire (Aarti, 2012). Predictably, the description of leader is somebody who is capable of inspiring or motivate folks to execute duties. A transformational manager is a leader who exhibits this aptitude in addition with other skills. Transformational managers are supervisors that regularly ask many questions when speaking with their personnel. Transformational leaders make firm eye contact as well as stop everything to ensure the personnel understand that they are the focus of attention (Aarti, 2012). This style of leadership takes extra precaution to guarantee that the personnel are catered for as well as their wishes are met. A transformational manager is a leader who cares heeds their employeesââ¬â¢ feelings. A successful transformational manager takes extra exertion to find out how the subordinates feel concerning changes, which are being fabricated, enquire for their judgment upon a range of matters, as well as attempt to inspire them to enhance their own state(AAAS, 2013). For this style of lead ership, its essence is to empower each specific worker to push tougher for their individual motives and not predictably because the firm says so. Nuclear Weapon Testing Essay Example for Free
Nuclear Weapon Testing Essay Nuclear Weapons testing have realized radiation into the environment. These tests have always been justified as necessary for national security. According to me, I disagree because if a nation allows nuclear weapons testing in its ground, then it should be ready for the aftermath repercussion, which is quite devastating. There is need to avoid using nuclear weapons for a nations security at the expense of its private citizens. Non-nuclear weapons can instead be used since they are less costs and just benefits. Risks of Nuclear Weapons According to Regina (2004), nuclear weapons testing pose environmental and international threats especially to the population surrounding the nuclear testing plant. The following highlights are the risks: â⬠¢ The explosion of nuclear device spreads lethal radioactive materials like dynamite (dirty bomb) which contaminates the region and will remain in the ecosystem for years. This causes cancer risks through drinking of contaminated water. â⬠¢ During nuclear weapon is testing, the major effects are either direct or indirect. Direct in the sense that it results to blast effects including production of flying debris and indirect in the sense that structures collapse especially when near a residential buildings or highly populated region. The population is then exposed to direct radiant energy and the thermal effect leading to permanent burns and traumatized population. A practical example is what happened in Hiroshima and Nagasaki during Second World War. â⬠¢ It has a permanent effect to the environment leading to increased cancer rates, organ damage, conjoined twins birth system and genetic modifications. â⬠¢ Accidental launches due to false alarms can cause two counties to use the nuclear weapons accidentally leading to mass destruction and loss of life. â⬠¢ The effects of nuclear testing can go as far as across its borders to neighboring countries. For example the on Aug. 2, 1987, the explosion at the Novaya Zemlya test site in the Russian Arctic produced radioactivity that was detected in Scandinavia (Glasstone, 2003). Benefits of non-nuclear weapons for national security Basically, using non-nuclear weapons in advantageous: â⬠¢ The costs of nuclear weapons are very high as compared to non-nuclear weapons. Hence these resources could substantially be used for other developmental issues for the country. â⬠¢ They do not pose environmental risks to the private citizens and state hence a healthy nation. â⬠¢ Non-nuclear weapons reflects reduction of tension between two nations hence improves their relations especially between the state and private citizens. â⬠¢ Nuclear weapons powers have qualitative constraints as compared to the quantitative cuts of their arsenals Measures like total ban should be formulated by global treaties against nuclear weapons that should: â⬠¢ Pressurize countries to forgo the process nuclear launches. â⬠¢ Build confidence and strengthen the growing conviction about the ineffectiveness of nuclear armaments for the security of nations. â⬠¢ Improve safety and security through the international monitoring network in nuclear stations. Basing on the current global security realities countries should come up with well-formulated policy to ban the use of nuclear weapons especially to the countries that have high nuclear arsenals like USA, Russia Pakistan and India (Hurst, et al, 2005). In conclusion, nuclear weapons do not contribute to the security of a nation but are of self-aggression and destruction; therefore, they should be completely abolished to avoid their further imminent threat. Following the Wrong Footsteps :: essays papers
Following the Wrong Footsteps For much of Public School's history, the academic standards had little to do with whether or not you were a male or a female. Much of one's placement in a classroom or school depended on the age or academic standing. Other issues such as the consolidation of schools and the Americanization of immigrants were given a higher placement of importance. The subject of gender was almost taken for granted and when the issue did intrude, historically the reaction was one of arbitrary response. The public was much more concerned with the development of their men than the equality of their children (Pollard, 1993.) As time allowed more men and more women to be schooled together, it was evident that a woman's presence alone would not ensure an equally beneficial education. The school systems continue to follow a gendered curriculum, created mainly by men in order to serve men. It is the reinforcement of the gender biases and assumptions through their methodical distribution and teaching of stereotypes and ideas that put the education of men and women on two separate levels. There is no example to follow when it comes to the equal education of children because even though they receive the same education, it is far from equal. It is this along with the lack of recognition towards women who have achieved greatness both in and out of education that creates an outsider status for the female student (Lasser, 1987). The main problem in attempting to accomplish gender equity is the fact that the teachers being sent off to teach children in gender equitable terms are not trained to do so. Gender equity issues are virtually ignored in most university level education classes and any strategies created to decrease gender-biased classroom behavior are basically non-existent. Most efforts to remove this problem are geared toward working teachers when the focus needs to be on the upcoming generation of teachers presently in school (Miller, 2001). Teacher Expectations and Learning Environments In addition to poor teacher training; culture stereotypes and the expectations of these teachers are what diminish a girl's self-esteem and confidence. This is turn continues to cheat girls out of the education they deserve (Miller, 2001). What has created this phenomenon of discrimination is not something of a natural occurrence, but one of social distortion.

Showing Off (Short Essay)
Essay by Mariss Kaminskis Showing off. Showing off is a way to tell people about something good you own or are capable of, for example, do a backflip. In the story, to my way of thinking, Clara did not show off. But since the teacher said i can write about showing off, i will write about it. Showing off can be seen everywhere and about everything, for example, sports or even lawn mowing. Most people show off to impress someone or just to show how cool and awesome you are.Itââ¬â¢s almost like bragging but in this case you can really do it not just tell people what you can do. If you want to tell about something amazing you own you can actually show that thing to that person. For example- I have a TV with a 42 inch diagonal. If you come over I can show you. The most common field where you see showing off is sports. Hockey players show off, football players show off, basketball players show off, all kinds of athletes show off. Mostly they show off their skills.Letââ¬â¢s take a pop ular football player ââ¬âCristiano Ronaldo. He just adores showing off his dribbling skills on the pitch. Most popular basketball player ââ¬â LeBron James. He just loves to shoot the ball in the basket without missing for a long time. Popular hockey player ââ¬â Pavel Datsyuk. Probably the most skilled player ever. He canââ¬â¢t live without his skill moves to get pass defenders. So showing off is just a way to look awesome. I donââ¬â¢t like those people who show off or brag. But I do own a TV with a 42 inch diagonalâ⬠¦ I really do!

Admissions to Montclair State University
ââ¬Å"By learning you will teach, by teaching you will learnâ⬠. This is a Latin proverb that has echoed in my mind when I experience the joy of sharing my knowledge and whenever I feel the urge to search for answers to my endless questions.Early in life I have developed a keen interest in the field of biology. My fascination to know how living things survive, reproduce, and change in time led me to ask questions, read books, perform observation, and view documentary shows about science.I could vividly recall spending my childhood leisure hours in the garden to observe the different species of butterflies, how a caterpillar transform into pupa and later into an adult butterfly. Then, in my high school freshman days, I performed a five week experiment to determine how plants grow. This experiment has further awakened my interest as I learn to test the quality of the soil, and the right amount of water, light and temperature to sustain the life of the plants. My endless quest for k nowledge has led me to search for answers through the use of various sources of information. Whenever I have found the answers to my nagging questions, I could not resist sharing the information to my family, friends and classmates. The satisfaction that I have gained in imparting my knowledge is immeasurable. I enjoyed the exchange of ideas, the transfer of knowledge, and the acquisition of new knowledge. There is joy in seeing their faces light up as they understand and appreciate what I was discussing. All these experiences have confirmed my interest to be an educator in the field of biology.I decided to major in Biology as I believe that the study of life is the most important subject in the world. The field of biology deals with the meaningful and profound knowledge of the existence of all living things. Studying life and the processes involved in sustaining it goes beyond the teaching of evolution. For me, biology allows me to explore the world as I study nature closely and unde rstand the diversity of life. However, it is not sufficient to gain knowledge of the subject matter. What would matter most is how students would learn through self discovery while teachers keep their goals in mind and allow room for improvement. This is an area that I need to learn as I have observed some of my classmates regard biology as a subject that often require memorization of scientific words related to classification and phylum.By pursuing an Education degree major in Biology in Montclair State University, I would learn about educational strategies and classroom management in order to keep students engage in their task, awaken their interest about the life on earth, and link their activities to the understanding of biological concepts as they acquire scientific knowledge. In addition, I intend to be committed in an experimental research or independent project so I could contribute to the field of Biology. As a high school student in (write the name of your school), I have a cquired a 3.050 cumulative GPA. I have received the William P. Orr scholarship for Fall 2007 and was given an award for being an active member in the SSS Star Program in the Spring of 2007.After completing my Bachelor degree in Education, I intend to teach high school junior and senior students while pursuing a graduate study. I also aim to get a doctorate degree in the same field so I can teach college students. Although I plan to study continuously while I am teaching, my passion to educate the learners will not begin and end with acquiring knowledge and earning degrees. My passion is focused in teaching the unknown and in facilitating the studentsââ¬â¢ understanding on the benefit of learning biology as applied to their daily life. I strongly believe that with my determination to succeed together with MSUââ¬â¢s excellent program, diverse faculty and student body combined with the individual attention of a small college, I will become an effective teacher who is deeply commit ted to serve the community of learners.

Make Peace With and Come to Terms With Make Peace With and Come to Terms With Make Peace With and Come to Terms With By Maeve Maddox Lately Ive noticed the use of the expression come to peace with. â⬠¦ Alice must navigate her way through the modern world of tabloid journalism and commercial exploitation and come to peace with her conflicted childhood. Motivating and leading Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Motivating and leading - Research Paper Example Marketing Plan of Coca Cola Marketing mix is a tool that enables the marketers of a particular product to make it attractive for the consumers. The marketers cannot control the external factors, hence, have limited chances to make the product look attractive for the consumers. Marketing mix involves decisions that may help in adjusting these internal controllable factors according to the needs of the consumers. The marketing plan of brands like coca cola clearly considers these factors to capture a larger global market (Kotler & Armstrong 2005, p 56) . This paper aims to examine the marketing plan of coca Cola and measures the contribution of factors which help in developing customer loyalty and brand recognition. Marketing Plan of Coca Cola: Marketing requires clear objectives to be achieved. The first and most important factor in designing and formulating a marketing plan is to identify the target audience. The targeted audience of Coca-Cola is undoubtedly circled around all age gr oups, cultures and societies. The biggest advantage that Coca Cola has today is its brand name. A well known brand like Coca Cola is much easier to be marketed than others (Mowen & Minor 2001, p 280). People can easily be attracted towards such products by careful consideration.

Reaction to Jack Kerouac's novel On the Road Essay
Reaction to Jack Kerouac's novel On the Road - Essay Example Al these activities were however meant to try and answer one constant question in their minds ââ¬Å"how are we to live?â⬠Beat is there a rather ambiguous word which can have several meanings. Kerouacââ¬â¢s critics however emphasis that the word beat means quite literally tired or beaten down. While Kerouac himself endorsed a rather positive meaning of the word, he put forward a meaning that was beatific and blissful. That is a generation that was always on the beat like in a musical rhythm such as jazz. Holmes and Kerouac published articles to try and enlighten on their interpretation of the word beat. They implied that rather than weariness the word implied being used and raw. This they explicated as coming from the core, of the human soul. It is therefore a word that depicted the vulnerability of the beat generation. He further depicted the meaning as being reduced to the bedrock of consciousness. In his articles he additionally enlightens that the beat generation was ver y different from the lost generation of the 1920ââ¬â¢s. The beat, generation as enumerated by Kerouac in his many articles is a generation that is rather not lost but one that is constantly searching for answers to life questions. For the beat generation therefore there main concern is not why they should live but rather how they should live. The novel depicts a rather spiritual journey which also included some subjects that the beat generation struggled with. This included religion, marriage and friendship. In numerous ways it the journey the beat generation took in Kerouacââ¬â¢s novel is a quest towards understanding and to find conviction, significance and belonging. They also wanted a more than average feeling they therefore searched for a profound feeling and understanding. As described by Holmes, to be beat is being at the bottom of your personality looking up. This is a state where all things that lack importance have been stripped down and only the core remains to expe rience the different sensations. The beat generation of 1950ââ¬â¢s and 60ââ¬â¢s were correlated to behaviors that expressed estranged feeling from the conventional society and promoted individual freedom and clarity through intense sensory awareness brought about by altered consciousness. The beat poets including Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Gregory Curso attempted to write verses which were not constrained in the academic norms but rather of a ââ¬Å"beatâ⬠quality. They sometimes mixed vernacular and profanities in their poems this was to depict the urgency and extent of the feeling in the poem movement. In the novel Kerouac depicts various other meanings of beat this are brought out by the characters he writes about. One instance is how Sal admires Deanââ¬â¢s transgressions and immorality even though his indecencies are sometimes extreme and very selfish to those around him. He embodies the beat generation by living for the moment and sampling different girls that come his way not caring if he destroys their lives. Sal in just the same pace idealizes the junkie body which also depicts some aspects of the meaning of the word beat. The word also has negative meanings as brought out to be nightmarish which is embodied by the homeless man idealized by Sal as Huck Finn. He ignores the poverty and marginalization but depicts the Hobo as being in Buddhist trance like mode. This is ridicule since the Hobo

Srategic Quality Management Implementation Plan Assignment
Srategic Quality Management Implementation Plan - Assignment Example Citigroup Inc. has always made an effort to marshal as much support as possible to derive a consensus necessary to implement the SQM applicable. The effort would take longer to put in place, but at least it would be moving forward. In some settings, it is often difficult to get consensus on minor issues, and it is almost impossible on change initiatives which impact the whole organization (Peratec, 1995). To move forward the management must develop and distribute an improvement plan which is integrated into the strategic plan for the business. To be the most successful, an excellence or quality initiative should be an integral part of strategic and tactical operations of the business hence the Strategic Quality Management Assess Current Culture, Values and Operating Guidelines Citigroup Inc. uses quality information for improvement, and not to judge or control people, there are rewards for results, authority is equal to responsibility while cooperation, not competition, as a base for working together. Employees have an ownership stake, secure jobs and a climate of fairness. Top most is that compensation is equitable (Peratec, 1995). ISO9000 Broadly ISO9000 series concerns itself with the quality management purpose and it is as such the main focus in ensuring gradual and/or continuous improvement as a process as recognized in this firm. ISO9000 is concerned with quality management. To be able to meet the demands of ISO9000, an organization has to improve quality in at each stage, from design through to delivery, assessment and evaluation, through a formal and rigorous management system to ensure conformity of the product or service to its specification as per the customer wish. It requires that all the activities necessary to produce the product or service be documented if the quality system is to conform to the standard. Everybody in the firm needs to understand its implications and to work to the systems and follow the procedures that have been put in place. T he SQM model There is interplay, back and forth, between the elements; for example, consideration of what strategic actions if taken can provoke discussions of whether and how the strategy can be implemented with real effectiveness (Peratec, 1995). The tasks involved in strategic management are never isolated from everything else that falls within a manager's preview. Strategy has to be formulated and implemented in the midst of a managerial schedule that is fragmented with appointments, meetings, paperwork deadlines, unexpected problems, and momentary crises. It is incorrect to construe the job of managing strategy as the exclusive task of managers, even though it may well be the most important function they perform where organizational success or failure is concerned (Peratec, 1995). Formulating and implementing strategy must be regarded as something that is ongoing and that evolves. What qualifies as a surefire high-performance strategy today is sooner or later rendered stale by events unfolding both inside and outside the enterprise. The task of "strategizing" can never therefore be a one-time exercise. As a consequence, fine-tuning-type changes in strategic plans, and an occasional major change in strategic thrust, are normal and expected. The need to keep strategy in tune with an organization's changing situation makes the strategic management process dynamic and means that the prevailing strategy is

Strategic HRM Case Study
Strategic HRM Case Study Introduction An organization is constructed of people. These people who assemble together as an organizationââ¬â¢s workforce are recognized as human resources. Human resources department clutches all the scopes of employee concerns like recruiting, training and motivating. Basically, the function that focuses on how to manage the people within an organization is known as Human Resource Management (HRM). HRM deals with issues related to people such as compensation, recruiting,à performance management, organization development and employee concerns like- safety, wellness, benefits, motivation, communication, administration, and training. HRM thrives to manage the workplaceà cultureà and environment. Effective HRM enables employees to contribute efficiently and productively to the overall company direction and the accomplishment of the organizations goals and objectives. HRM is not managed using the traditional approaches anymore. Rather, the increased use of outsourcing has created the urge for building up new and innovative ways to manage the workforce in todayââ¬â¢s workforce. It calls for comprehensive and thorough strategies to respond to the contemporary issues of globalization and diversity. Company overview: Complete IT (CIT) is an UK based IT support Service Company that has been providing with local IT support to SMEs for over 20 years now. They tend to maintain the highest levels of technical expertise and accreditations to resolve IT issues. They hold the motto of not just fixing problem, but finding ways to improve systems and positively impact on their clientsââ¬â¢ tea, and business. Their services range from reactive support to proactive management of the clientsââ¬â¢ IT, but each built specifically for each client. They promise to deliver IT support with passion and commitment with a friendly, honest and simple approach. 1. Role and Importance of Strategic HRM 1.1 Strategic HRM Strategic HRM is known as the preventive management system of the employees in an organization. More elaborately speaking, it is a technique of managing human resources that brings a strategic outline to upkeep long-term business objectives and outcomes. There are three major theories of strategic HRM used in todayââ¬â¢s HRM. Like many other companies, CIT also uses these theories into application. Universalist Approach: Also known as Best Practice Approach, this theory assumes that high performance output in an organization can be achieved via a set of HRM practices. These practices are described in a set of four policy goals- Commitment: Confirming the faithfulness of employees to the organization so that they provide with their best of performance. Strategic Integration: The integration of the HRM to the companyââ¬â¢s strategic planning so that HRM can be a part of companyââ¬â¢s overall strategy should be ensured. Moreover it should also be ensured that the line managers use HRM strategies in their everyday work. Quality: The fact that employees should always be kept satisfied and motivated in order to bring out their optimum performance so that they can deliver products and of the highest of quality should be ensured. Flexibility: Todayââ¬â¢s workforce seek out flexibility in their workplace. Administration should ensure this aspect in order to keep the staff driven enough to deliver the maximum productivity. However, it is to be noted that Guest believed all of these theories shall work only together, and not individually, to attain the company objectives. Fit or Contingency Approach: HR plans and practices must be coordinated with the organizationââ¬â¢s plans and practices for the maximum performance to be produced. This synchronization of HR and Company strategies can be labeled as the ââ¬Å"vertical fitâ⬠. This approach is also known as the ââ¬Å"best fit approachâ⬠. The best fit approach:The best fit approach supports that HR strategies and organizational policies have to be aligned. There are three available simulations of this best fit approach- Lifecycle model: Organizational development is done in four stages Start-up, Growth, Maturity and Decline. The HR department should be well aware of the companyââ¬â¢s ongoing stage so they can select the correct strategies to match up the companyââ¬â¢s current stage. Strategic configuration: In this model it is said that companies can be on the operative front if they can implement tactical configuration policy (market-type structure or internal type structure), coordinated with company types (namely Defenders, Prospectors and Reactors, Analyzers), and (classified as; Machine Bureaucracy, Divisionalised form, Simple Structure, Adhocracy Professional and Bureaucracy). Best fit and competitive strategy: three competitive strategies are; Quality, Cost-Leadership and Focus (Niche). Companies should adopt competitive strategies in order to maximize performances. This is more important because of the increasing competition in todayââ¬â¢s business world. It is always better to have a competitive edge and to use that edge in the best way possible. The Configurationally Perspective: This model deals with the importance of the outline of several HR policies and in what way these outline of HR policies (independent variables) affect the Organizational performance (dependent variable). The term configuration is explained differently by various scholars and writers for two reasons. The first one being ââ¬Å"the scope to which HR policies are associated into an overall HR structureâ⬠and the second one- ââ¬Å"the notch of fit amid an overall HR structure and an administrative typeâ⬠. 1.2 Importance of HRM In CIT, HRM is perceived as one of the most consequential drives of the corporation. HR managementââ¬â¢s significance can be classified into the following subsequent activities: Enrollment and Training: Recruiting new people and training them as per the organizationsââ¬â¢ needs are the key responsibilities of HRM. To fill up the vacant position in the organizations, HR managers plan test and trials for potential candidates. HR also fixes the terms and conditions of the contract that takes place between the employee and the organization. Performance Evaluations: HRM prompts the workforce to bring out their finest performance. It provides with feedbacks to the employees that creates a proper communication between the employees and the employers. Nourishing Work Atmosphere: Work ambiance is a crucial aspect for employee satisfaction and high level of performance. HRM manages to maintain a decent, safe and clean working environment for its employees. The performance of the workforce largely depend on the work atmosphere and company culture. So, HRM strives to keep up the best possible work environment for its staff. Handling Disputes: Inner disputes and conflicts among colleagues is a very common element in organizations. It is always the HRMââ¬â¢s duty to mediate in such situation so as to resolve such clashes and therefore establish an order in the workforce. While itââ¬â¢s important to take care of the disputes in a fair manner, the HRM must also be very cautious in handling such cases as sometimes, the methods can easily create employee displeasure. Increasing Public Relations: Developing public relation with numerous interested parties and stakeholders of the organization is a vital role played by the HRM. HRM stands responsible for organizing meetings, seminars, workshops etc. to interconnect with these parties. In some cases HR department even helps into business and marketing planning. 1.3 Analysis of different Frameworks of HRM The Harvard Analytical Framework for HRM: Produced by Beer et al. (1984), is a good equilibrium between the Universalist Approach and the Fit Approach. CIT relates this model in its HR management. This framework works on the conjecture that the problems of managing employees can be explained when the general managers of the company have their own perspective about how they want the employees to be involved in the company and what sort of policies are best for this method. Ulrichââ¬â¢s Multiple Role Model: Ulrich et al. (2009) proposes a multiple competency framework involving of four potentials for HR mangers other than recruiting, training, and motivating. It is specified below: Figure 2: Ulrichââ¬â¢s Multiple Role Model HR roles are demonstrated in this framework into two axes. The horizontal axis designates the leading focus of HRââ¬âeither Future Strategic or Day to Day Operational, and the vertical axis indicates leading actions of HR, either process and systems or people connected. These two axes form the four qualities of HR- Strategic Partner, Change Agent, Employee Champion and Administrative Expert. CITââ¬â¢s HR managers ponder in these features with attention. 2. Formulation Implementation of HR Strategies 2.1 Analyzing the Strategic Human Resource Process Strategic HR Process canââ¬â¢t be constructed of any single approach, it can always vary between organizations. CIT uses a specific model for Strategic HR process that encompasses of the following key facts: Structuring the strategic course: When the HR policies are backed up by the companyââ¬â¢s mission, vision and objective, this process is constructed. In CIT, the entire HRM process is established by concurring the company leadersââ¬â¢ long term objectives. So the entire process of recruitment, training, motivating and additional processes are planned to achieve long term company goal. Developing the HRM System: Since CIT is an IT based firm, it allows its employees to work from home by using internet. Also, CIT believes in creating variety in their workforce in lieu to which they are engaging female employees in definite positions. Planning the total workforce: Defining the essential future workforce depending on the companyââ¬â¢s progress and necessity is a very challenging activity of the HRM, especially now-a-days. Producing the required human resources: The key focus of this process is to recruit, contract, organize, formulate and convey staffs grounded on the tactical provisions of the managementââ¬â¢s workforce strategy. Dedicating to HR progress and performance: HR development process marks on the growth and use of business proficiency and the cooperating elements, all of which lead to a thriving organizational performance. A good encouragement program for the employees should comprise a mix of base pay, bonus, profit share, priority in company share etc. in overall. (Robert C. B., 2003). Evaluating and supporting managerial aptitude and performance: Basically, there is no exact approach to precisely measure the changes in HR policies or how performances affect the companyââ¬â¢s output. This can be overcome by the usage ââ¬Ëbalance scorecards.ââ¬â¢ 2.2 Roles in Strategic Human Resource Management The strategic roles of top management, front-line management, HR executive, HR specialists are the ones that sums up the roles of strategic HRM. Their roles in CIT are described below- Strategic Part of Top Management: The long term business goals of the company are set by the idealistic leaders of the company- the ones who forms the top management. This set consists of the CEO, CFO and President. They ensure the concurrence of the company growth and objectives with those of the individual departments. Strategic Part of Front-line Administration: According to Eduardo Salas et al (2001), front line managers ââ¬Ëbring HR policies to lifeââ¬â¢. This means that if the managers are against a new HR strategy, it would be problematic to device the strategy which will gradually lead to dissatisfaction among employees. Tactical Role of the HR Director: Because they are the part of the top management, the HR Directors hold a great position in the strategic planning. They ensure the integration of HR policies and tactics with overall business goals and supervise the implementation of those plans. Strategic Part of HR Authorities: HR executives have various tasks like new preparation programs, performance management, granting employees, improving the work atmosphere etc. therefore, at any given point, they should work on a priority basis. 2.3 Development of HR Strategies There is no single way to advance HR strategies. For example, CIT uses the six step method proposed by Gratton (1999): Figure the superintendent association: Comprising people from all parts of the professional. Envisaging the upcoming: Building a shared idea for the regions of strategic prominence. Identifying present abilities and pinpoint the gap: Assessing the companyââ¬â¢s present point and analyzing the break between companyââ¬â¢s upcoming goals and current condition. Shape a map of the system: This is done to safeguard the small stages taken can be expressed into a whole plan. Model the refinements of the structure: All possible future results should be taken into account to evade any unexpected change or uncertainty in the strategic plan. Bridge into action: Involving line managers, creating guiding principles, forming cross-functional collections to recognize objectives and performance devices. 2.4 Implementation of HR Strategies HR strategies implementation can always vary from organization to organization, it has no perfect model. CIT practices the following tasks to implement HR policies. Supporting employees to understand the strategy: Employees must have the proper understanding of the ââ¬Ëwhat and whyââ¬â¢ of the policy to actually execute it in the workplace. A failure to comprehend the company policy properly will prohibit the employees from using their full level of talent to achieve company objective. Improving employee responsibility to the strategy: It is always known that change causes disharmony. Any kind of modification in strategy can easily cause displeasure among employees. Employees must be given the understanding that accepting the current change will lead to a better outcome. Reforming local work with the strategy: The proper understanding of the strategies by the employees is not always enough, it must also be executed by dismissing off-strategy works and starting on-strategy works with new vigor. Generating inter-departmental assistance: Creating bridging relation among the employees of different subdivisions is always a little challenging because of their different work nature. Activity 2 3. Contemporary Issues in Strategic HR Management 3.1 Identification of Contemporary Issues Affecting Strategic HRM Strategic HRM is mostly affected by the following issues- Job Stress: The adverse reaction that people tend to show when theyââ¬â¢re incapable of coping up with the pressure and atmosphere of work can be defines as Job Stress. It can lead to illness, absenteeism, low efficiency rate, frustration, personal problems etc. Work-Life Stability: Everyone is always busy in todayââ¬â¢s competitive corporate world. The use of advanced technology allows employers to engage employees in work even after office hours, via internet. Diversity: In any organization today, people from diverse backgrounds come together to work. Globalization has become a major issue in todayââ¬â¢s HR management. Downsizing: Many companies are economizing their workforce due to recent economic recession, as a measure of cost cutting. 3.2 Analysis of Contemporary Issues Affecting Strategic HRM The increasing challenges in HRM management are forcing todayââ¬â¢s organizations to consider strategic HRM in a different way. Recruitment procedure is now a two-way approach. Employers can use a resume record or ââ¬Ëcorporate poachingââ¬â¢. Because job switching has become a very common issue today, keeping employees, specially the most adept ones, motivated and satisfied is becoming much tougher. Even CIT has not been able to keep a hold of many of its most capable employees. So, theyââ¬â¢re now forming new strategies to keep their staff driven. Activity 3 4. Assessing the range of HR Strategies its Application This section discusses different types of strategies in HR and their application in business organizations. 4.1 Range of HR Strategies The ranges of HR strategies include different tools. The ones used by CIT are discussed below: Strategies for improving organizational effectiveness: Concrete leadership from the upper management. A strong management team. Continual pressure to renovate and expand. Ability to react fast to opportunities and threats. Strategies for Learning and Expansion: This ensures the correct training of the employees in order to achieve organizational goals. This is related with housing a learning culture, encouraging organizational knowledge, providing for individual learning and launching a learning organization. Strategies for Performance Measurement: Performance Management ââ¬Å"carries a mean of joining business strategy and technical assembly to direct the whole organization to achieving mutual organizational objectivesâ⬠(Purcell et al, 2005), it delivers the best means to attain organizational goals. Strategies for Employee Relations: Here, the intents of the organization about what is required to be done and what is needed to be altered in the customs in which the organization maintains its relationships with employees and their trade unions is explained. It is to be noted that employee policies are different than strategies. Strategies are dynamic. 3.2 Application of HR Strategies CIT attempts to achieve its organizational goals by applying all the strategies defined above, including resourcing strategy and reward strategy. It can be quite impossible to measure the exact amount of return these applications of HR strategies bring; nonetheless, there are some indicative measures that can help us towards greater understanding of the impact of change in HR policies. For example, if the workforce management program has been integrated properly with the companyââ¬â¢s goals and company is performing well, it can be said that we are getting good return on HR strategies. Another example of good HR outcomes is found on Michael Armstrong et al (2006) research reports on hospitals which decreased mortality rate by creating efficient HRM. Conclusion It can be concluded that human resource management is one of the crucial activities in todayââ¬â¢s organizations. No workplace can be run proficiently without correctly trained and motivated employees. And with the increasing globalization today, proper Human Resource Management is becoming more and more challenging.
